Wenedelin Van Draanen is an American writer of Children’s and Young Adult fiction, especially detective stories. Born in Chicago, one of her early influences was Ray Bradbury, whose books inspired her to write How I Survived Being a Girl. She also read Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Encyclopedia Brown growing up. She took to writing to cope with a family crisis in the mid-1990’s and published her first book in 1997.
